Happy One Month Birthday, Jackson!

Dear Sweet Baby Jax,

I can’t believe that one month ago I was in the hospital getting ready to become a mother. Your dad and I are so blessed to have you in our lives and love watching you grow every day!

At your 2 week pediatrician appointment (you were actually one day shy of 3 weeks at the time), you weighed 9 pounds 12 ounces which is in the 75th percentile. You were 21.25 inches long, which is in the 50th percentile. What a growing boy! Mommy was so nervous about breastfeeding, but you have taken to it quite well and your weight and height show that!

Look at those long legs and feet!
You wore your newborn onesies and jammies for two weeks after you were born, but then one day I noticed that I couldn’t quite get them buttoned anymore between your legs! I have a feeling that you will be growing out of all your clothes in length before the actual size. You also stopped wearing newborn diapers about that time too. Now you are wearing size one diapers and 0-3 and 3 month clothes.

You just started really being alert and social right around your one month mark. I really noticed you actually “looking” at us when we talk to you. It is so much fun! At first you would pick a spot on the wall behind my head to look and you would grin and smile at the spot for a long time. Daddy and I think maybe you can see things we can’t see because you sure love staring at what seems to us like nothing! Maybe you can see the angels that God has keeping charge over us. That’s a really fun thought! We love to sit and talk to you when your tummy is full and you’re happy to talk right back.  You coo and squeal and kick your legs like crazy. We’ve noticed you favoring your left side, and Daddy is hoping you’ll be a lefty like him.

In the first few weeks after you were born you had your umbilical cord that we had to keep clean and dry and also your circumcision place, so we couldn’t give you a real bath. Your Pop and GiGi helped us give you your first sponge bath at home, and boy, did you get mad! You hated being rubbed down, but you calmed down the instant Mommy wrapped you in your towel. Once we were able to give you real baths in your Puj tub, you started loving baths. You love when Daddy rinses you off with the sprayer in the sink, and if you ever get water or bubbles anywhere near your face you try to lick them up!

You also love your car seat and sleep really well in the car unless we stop the car for some reason. You wake right up and start to fuss and cry. This makes going through Sonic at happy hour kind of difficult, little man! You have been so good on the two long car trips we’ve taken so far, so Mommy will just have to be okay with skipping drive throughs for awhile.

We are having so much fun watching you grow, Jax, and we can’t get enough of you! We love you so much, sweet boy.

So Here I Am...

Hi everyone!

My name is Erica and I am a twenty-four year old wife and stay-at-home mom. I was formally a first grade teacher, but after my son Jackson was born this summer, I decided to forgo teaching for awhile to be my son’s “first and best teacher,” as my principal put it. My husband Matt works in full-time ministry at the bible camp we met at almost ten years ago. I will share more about us and our life later!

The Husband and I
When I found out that I was going to be a SAHM, I immediately started following as many mommy blogs as I could. I had so much fun delving into the lives of all kinds of different moms and moms-to-be, and I couldn’t wait until it was my turn to experience all the joys and even struggles they were writing about.

I tried blogging when I was in college, but school and work soon kept me from being able to commit a lot of time to writing. After reading so many mommy blogs throughout my pregnancy, I started to think, “Maybe I should try that again…” So here I am, attempting to share my experiences as a stay-at-home, first-time mom. I can’t guarantee that everything I share will be interesting, but I do know that after being a mom for seven weeks now, that crazy is just something that happens daily, so I’m certain it will be fun(ny)! If anything, I am excited to be able to document and record the first years of my every growing and changing little boy. Every day and second that we have with him is so precious, and I don’t want to forget these sweet days.

So welcome to Life and Love on the Hill—a title that I will soon explain in another post!
